Our Name
Why HEY SUA?
Two small words, one big welcome.
HEY
The easy, casual way you greet someone you're happy to see. No introduction needed.
SUA
Officially it means brother-in-law. But on the island you hear it everywhere as a warm, friendly greeting for someone whose name you don't know, or have forgotten. We lived in Curaçao for many years and brought the word with us.
“Hey, sua!” That's exactly the feeling we want at our door: you don't need to know anyone's name yet. You're welcome anyway.

HEY SUA isn't a café, a bar, a workshop studio or a game store. It's a bit of each, under one roof. The waffles, the games and the workshops give you a reason to come. What keeps you coming back is the people you start to recognize. That's the real product: belonging.

Nobody is pushed into anything. If you just want a coffee and a quiet corner, that's fine too. We simply make it easy to say hey.

In a world full of online connections, we noticed how difficult it can be to make meaningful connections in real life. Many people have become used to staying home, even when they'd love to get out and meet others.
We're Gerlinde and Saskia, and we created HEY SUA to help bridge that gap. A place where taking the first step feels easy, where you can come alone without feeling alone, and where friendships grow naturally through games, creativity, workshops, and shared adventures.

And because we're originally from Belgium, we're bringing a little taste of home with us: delicious Belgian waffles and chocolates to make those moments even sweeter.

Every week brings something different. Once or twice a month we head out together, from bowling and karting to ziplining. Members can propose and lead their own workshops. And together we support local causes for children, animals, seniors and the environment.

Visiting, workshops, events, outings and the Play Area are open to everyone. No membership needed. Members also get:
- 10% off workshops (special workshops may be excluded)
- Early booking for workshops, events and outings

Questions About HEY SUA
The short answers to what people ask us most.
Is HEY SUA a bar or a café?
Neither, really. HEY SUA is an alcohol-free third place: somewhere to meet people, play, make and discover. We serve Belgian waffles, Belgian chocolate, coffee, tea, fresh chocolate milk, mocktails and simple snacks, but the food is there to support the experience, not the other way around.
Do I need to be a member to visit?
No. Visiting, workshops, events, outings and the Play Area are open to everyone. Game World and the Make Space are for Member and Member+ members, and your first visit to each is free.
Is it okay to come alone?
Absolutely. That’s what we’re here for. A Community Host will welcome you and help you find a game, a project or a conversation.
Can I bring my own food or drinks?
Outside food and drinks aren’t allowed, but waffles, snacks, coffee, tea and mocktails are right there. Your own games and projects are always welcome.
Is there a minimum age?
Yes. HEY SUA is a place for adults to meet new friends, so all of HEY SUA, including workshops, games and events, is for guests 18 and older.
Can I lead a workshop myself?
Yes. With a Member or Member+ membership you can propose a workshop about something you’re good at. We review every proposal before it goes into the program.
When does HEY SUA open?
We’re still choosing our location in Tampa. Join the waitlist and you’ll be the first to hear when we open.
